History

Thirty years ago, the founder of Caritas and the Community of Caritas, also known as a Friend of Medjugorje, was visiting Philadelphia and went alone to Independence Hall, the site of our nation’s birth, to pray for our nation’s conversion and rebirth. Feeling that this was holy ground, he prayed a Rosary and felt the Holy Spirit’s powerful presence. The grace from this Rosary offered to Our Lady on this site led to the discovery of many facts concerning Our Lady’s involvement in the birth of America which are contained within a Friend of Medjugorje’s 1993 writing, American History You Never Learned.

Over the last three decades since this happened, Our Lady has called a Friend of Medjugorje back to Independence Hall on several occasions. In the fall of 1995, he brought nearly the entire Caritas Community to Independence Hall to pray the rosary and experience the same profound grace he had felt there. It was 11:00 P.M. Few people were walking about. Those present were struck deeply by the powerful sense that Our Lady was with them as they prayed. It was an unforgettable moment for them.

Two months later, a smaller group from the community were again at Independence Hall with a Friend of Medjugorje. This time they came to pray a special rosary that a Friend of Medjugorje had written, known now as The Patriotic Rosary, along with a prayer he had written two years earlier entitled, “Prayer to Heal Our Land.”

These two prayers woven together are a powerful cry to Heaven to lead our nation back to God. These prayers have been prayed faithfully by believers around the world, in an ongoing three-decades long Consecration of the United States of America to Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart, as of 2026.

And it continues even to this day.
